Results from the Burke Oil Streets of Wicklow 5k!

Over 300 people took part in the Annual Streets of Wicklow 5k today, around Wicklow Town. Gone was the snow and ice which effected this race last year, however all the competitors did have to face into a strong headwind for the 1st 2km. The race was won in a very impressive 15:03mins, by Thomas Fitzpatrick of Tallaght AC, with Peter Matthews of Clonliffe AC in 2nd, with 15:35mins. Our local Inbhear Dee athlete Cathal Daly was in 3rd place, and also was the 1st junior, in a time of 15:58mins. Roisin McGettigan, also from Inbhear Dee was the 1st place woman. About 50 kids also took part in a 1mile race which was held just before the main race.

Burke Oil Streets of Wicklow 5k, On Stephens Day around Wicklow Town


The annual Burke Oil Streets of Wicklow 5k will take place again on Stephens day, around Wicklow Town. Registration and race start are at the East Glendalough School (near the Wicklow train station). There will be a kids 1 mile race at 11am, and the 5k will start at 11.30 sharp. Entry for the 5k is only 10euros, and you can pay on the day.

The race is organized by both the Inbhear Dee athletics club, and the Wicklow Rugby club. All profits go directly back into these two clubs. The race is run under an Athletics Ireland permit, on an accurately measured 5k loop. It is open to all runners, joggers and walkers. There is always a good mix of standard, everyone is welcome!

Wicklow Uneven ages and Intermediate Cross Country in Roundwood

Well done to all the Inbhear Dee athletes who took part in the Wicklow County Uneven ages and Intermediate cross country on last Sunday (16th), in Roundwood. One of the 1st races of the day saw a winning start for Inbhear Dee, with Rory Hennessy taking gold in the U-7 Boys. Next up was the girls U-9, which was won by Inbhear Dees Isabelle Carroll. Others who did well in this race were: Bonnie Bell King, Aimee Bell King, Mia McCann, Abi Smith, Holly McSorley, and Sadhbh Dolan. Cormac Byrne was 3rd in the U-9 boys, with Finn Egan-Barron, Ciaran Carey and Cormac Flynn doing well also!

The Inbhear Dee twins Mia and Jessica Ryan did very well in the U-11 Girls, finishing 3rd and 5th respectively, and the team picked up 2nd place, and was also made up of: Ciara Fagan, Emma Kristiansen, Eve Rafter, Leah Kavanagh, Evie Humby and Chloe O’Donovan. In the Boys U-11s, Aidan Hennessy, Mark Britchfield and Michael Bell King all ran well to come in in 7th, 10th and 19th places. In the U-13 girls, Ailbhe Flynn came in a strong 9th. The U-13 Boys had a strong showing from Inbhear Dee, with James Byrne 3rd, and the team took bronze, with Lorcan Kelly, Oisin Nolan, Liam Britchfield, Tom Rafter, Harrison Okungbowa and Ben Brady all doing well.

In the older kids races, There was more success in the U-15 Boys, with Robert Bell King and Rory Kelly coming in together in 4th and 5th, and in the U-17 race, Robin Mooney had a good race to take bronze. In the adults races, Claire Earls took Bronze also, with Paula Humby doing well also. The mens team had a good race to win the team prize again, with Cathal Daly and Tim Grummell coming in together in 4th and 5th, and Ben Mooney, Sean Dunne and Tom Byrne making up the team.

Next race up for some of the athletes is Leinster Even ages, Novice and Masters Cross Country which takes part on the 30th of October, in Mulligar. One final notice is that the Inbhear Dee club will be holding the annual Streets of Wicklow 5km race on Stephens Day, around Wicklow town. This is open everyone both runners and walkers, and is a great chance to burn off the turkey after Christmas day! All are welcome!



Wicklow Even ages and Novice Cross country, Rathdrum


Well Done to everyone who took part in the Wicklow Even ages and Novice Cross Country last Sunday (2nd Oct) in Rathdrum. Inbhear Dee had a number a very good results, including James Byrne who won the Boys U12 race, Cathal Daly who was 2nd in the Mens Novice race, Claire Earls who was 3rd in the Womens Novice race. The Mens Novice team had a comfortable win, with 19points, against Kilcoole ac who were 2nd in 34points. The Team consisted of Cathal Daly, Tim Grummell, Sean Dunne, Ben Mooney and Tom Byrne

Other athletics who competed include the following: Cormac Flynn, Rory Hennessy (U8s), Eve Humby, Direann Dreman, Bonnie Bell King, Aimee Bell King, Reece Snell, Aidan Hennessy, Jack Byrne, Ciaran Carey, Micheal Bell King(all U10s), Ciara Fagan, Alex Sheridan(U12s), Ailbhe Flynn, Robert Bell King, Rory Kelly, Tom Delahunt, Oisin Nolan, James Daly (U14s), and Robin Mooney, in the U16s.

Next cross country up is the Wicklow Odd ages and Intermediate, on the 16th in Roundwood!
